In ancient medical systems the wind element (‘lung’ in Tibetan) flows through channels in the subtle energy body. If the mind becomes agitated, there’s an interruption and the wind pools or gathers, causing disturbances of body, energy or mind. The Tibetan aphorism for this rule (oft-quoted by the marvellous Teacher Cecilie Kwiat) is, “Where the mind goes, the winds gather,” meaning ‘What we give attention to increases’. For the sceptics among us, neuro-physiological science has now given objective proof that this is true.
This weekend we will explore a little of the physiology of reactive emotional states, explore ways to be more deliberate about where to place our attention, and learn simple ways to shift it on purpose when necessary.
One of the great gifts of Precious Human Birth is that matter is denser than mind making it easier to observe cause and effect. During the retreat we will be using gentle physical movement to experience how attention works, and to promote and expand more resilient, helpful states.
About The Teacher
When Gaye Rowley (some know her as Dawa) was four years old she nagged her parents into sending her to Sunday school. She’s been curious about all forms of spirituality ever since.
Gaye has completed numerous three-month and one-month retreats, and attended countless classes, urban retreats, courses, and weekend workshops. She has studied and practised with many inspiring and skilful teachers in the Namgyal lineage including Namgyal Rinpoche, Sayadaw U Thila Wunta (Rinpoche’s first Buddhist teacher), Chogye Trichen Rinpoche, Cecilie Kiwat, Tarchin Hearn, Leander Kane and many others. She was instrumental in helping set up the Queenstown Dharma Centre, and has been a Caretaker at the Wangapeka Centre.
You’ll find Gaye is a warm, authentic, approachable teacher, with a unique and often humorous perspective on making spirituality a practical tool for everyday life.
