It answers\, I have made this place around you. \nThe forest knows where you are. \nYou must let it find you.” \nDavid Wagoner “Lost” \n  \nGroup numbers will be small so there will be time for in-depth work on individual issues. \n“This workshop and vision quest was one of the more down-to-earth spiritually   transformative experiences I’ve ever had.” – 2016 group member \nWorkshop Information\n \nCost for the workshop\, four days’ accommodation and vegetarian meals will be NZ$760 (Aust$705; US$485; Can$640; £380; Euro 435). His distinguished academic career includes fellowships at MIT\, the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies and the ANU; and service as Professor of Asian & Comparative History at the University of Michigan\, and as President of the California Institute of Integral Studies\, San Francisco.\nHe brings a wealth of experience in cultures around the world\, including study with Native American\, Tibetan Buddhist\, Hindu\, Balinese\, Maori and Aboriginal Australian teachers. His most recent book is: “Other Ways of Knowing: Recharting Our Future With Ageless Wisdom” \nHe has travelled extensively in Asia\, Europe\, North America and the Pacific and spent a year living in an Indian Himalayan village. After 10 years in San Francisco\, he moved to the Marlborough Sounds in New Zealand\, where he established a private nature reserve on 50 acres of remote coastal forest\, Te Wairua\, “place of spirit.” \nAbout Dr. Dawne Sanson\nDawne Sanson has practised as a naturopath\, incorporating medical herbalism and craniosacral therapy in her healing work for over 35 years. This led to an awareness of\, and curiosity about subtle energies\, resulting in an experiential exploration of shamanism and contemporary shamanic healing. Dawne completed her doctorate Taking the Spirits Seriously in 2012\, a study based in Aotearoa. During her research she met contemporary shamans (neo-shamans) and Māori healers\, attended shamanic workshops and vision quests. She still regards herself as a curious explorer of shamanism\, and particularly appreciates opportunities to deepen this exploration with others within a ritually-created sacred space. \nIt would be our pleasure to have you join us on this retreat.

SUMMARY:Inner Wisdom and Penetrative Insight the Practice of White Manjusri
DESCRIPTION:Inner Wisdom and Penetrative Insight the Practice of White Manjusri\nApril 16 to May 14\, 2021\nTo those whose motivation to awaken for the benefit of all beings is strong and determined\, this practice of the inner wisdom manifestation of Manjusri\, the Bodhisattva embodiment of Transcendent Wisdom\, is offered. \nVenerable Namgyal Rinpoche\, recognized as an emanation of this form of Manjusri (by Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche\, a venerated Nyingma master) inspired the founding of Wangapeka. This practice connects us directly to the blessing energy that imbues the Wangapeka land and supports the awakening of all who feel a sense of spiritual homecoming when they arrive there. \nThe retreat will be grounded in traditional sadhana practice\, with the addition of the White Manjusri exercises\, crafted by Rinpoche to directly address blocks or distortions of the energy body. \nMaturity in Dharma Practice\, particularly with Sadhana\, and stable mental and physical health are needed to fully engage with the inner and outer rigour of this retreat. \nPreference will be given to those able to commit to the full retreat. Attendance for the first two weeks may be possible if there is space available. \nPlease apply by March 9th.  After this\, two week applicants will be offered any available spaces. \nCosts\nIncluded: food\, cooks fee\, accommodation and resource fee.  Not included:  Dana to Bonni.\nMembers:  $2\,212  plus Dana\nNon members: $2\,492  plus Dana \nDana\nThese precious teachings can’t be quantified in monetary terms. Liberation teachings have always been given freely by Bonni. \nAn offering can be made to the teacher\, traditionally at the beginning of the retreat\, and is a profound practice in itself. Giving helps us open; and through an open-hearted state of receptivity\, we find ourselves more able to receive. \nPlease bring cash if you would like to make a financial contribution. Giving as generously as you can enables Bonni to continue sharing the precious Buddhadharma for the benefit of all. Thank you. \nIf the cost is a barrier for you\, Wangapeka has a Sangha Support Fund and you are welcome to apply for assistance towards accommodation costs to attend a retreat. Please ask the course manager for more information. \nAbout Bonni Ross\nBonni Ross has taught extensively at the Wangapeka over the last 30 years and is a deeply respected ‘Centre Elder ‘. She guides individuals in developing focused and skillful meditation and leads retreats for depth unfoldment. \nBonni began exploring the teachings of liberation in the early sixties. In the mid 70’s she met her principal teacher\, Venerable Namgyal Rinpoche\, whose direct\, eclectic teaching and example are central to her life. Bonni teaches from a deep wealth of meditative experience. She communicates with sensitivity\, creativity and humour in a way that resonates with each individual present. \nBonni is one of the founders of the dharmasphere collective and one of the visionaries behind the innovative project ‘2020 A Year of Clear Vision’. \nShe is inspired by ‘ordinary’ people who demonstrate exceptional courage and compassion in the midst of great suffering. Somewhat unexpectedly\, Bonni now finds herself living in Nelson\, and is currently deeply engaged in studying Maoritanga. \nInformation\nFor more information please contact the course manager:  Kath Mitchell mitchell.kath@gmail.com \nRegistration\nTo register please fill out our online registration form \nRegister now \nIf using Paypal please add 5% of the total cost and include with your payment to cover Paypal’s fees – many thanks. \n*Please consider becoming a Wangapeka member – click here for details.

However our mind is so empowered and controlled by habit all the time. One characteristic of habit is not being able to sit still\, not being able to remain in the present. This is because being in the present is so scary\, so boring and unbearable for our deluded and spoiled mind. Little do we know that actually being in the present is so exciting and the most liberating from all kinds of pain\, suffering and anxiety.”\n– Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse \n\n\nAbout Jakob Leschly\nJakob became a student of Buddhism in 1974. He travelled to India in 1975\, where he became a student of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche\, as well as Tulku Pema Wangyal. He met Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse in 1977 and became his student as well. \nIn the early 1980s\, Jakob did a three-year retreat in France\, after which he worked for Association de Centre d’Etudes de Chanteloube. He has worked on translations from Tibetan\, including Shabkar and Wondrous Dance of Illusion\, and has also served as an oral interpreter for several lamas. In the 1990s he lived in Bir\, translating both Madhyamaka and sadhana material for Siddhartha’s Intent (SI). In the late 1990s\, he began leading study and practice programs for SI Western Door. \nWorking toward clear and inclusive presentations of Buddhism for modern lay people and non-Buddhists\, Jakob wrote and edited many of the early summaries and blurbs presenting Rinpoche’s teachings and programs. In the 2000s he earned a BA in Tibetology at the University of Copenhagen\, exploring the commonalities and differences between Buddhism and western humanities and sciences. Since 2008 he has lived in Australia\, where he presently directs study and practice programs for SI Australia. He is also a member of the KF Ashoka Translation Grants Subcommittee.
