My dear friends, fellow students, family and Dharma brothers and sisters,
I know the following news may come as a great shock to many of you.
After Cecilie’s transfer from the Trauma Hospital in Edmonton to Didsbury, new medical information has come to light. As of this writing, I have been informed by the Doctors here, after careful reassessment, that her health is failing quickly, and that there is no reasonable hope of recovery from the consequences of this tragic car accident.
Her organs are failing, her body is shutting down and it is clear that she is ‘done’ with this incarnation. The provisions of her Personal Directive (Living Will) are now in effect, and in keeping with her wishes, there will be no further extraordinary measures.
Her Doctor is assuring that she is as comfortable as possible. She does have a lovely room, a beautiful view, and there is no intention of moving her physically.
Now is the time to reflect upon the remarkable gift of her life and the lives she has touched and her total commitment to Dharma. She is a great lover of all that dances in this universe. Her depth mind is clear and quintessentially ‘Cecilie’. Her Doctor believes, now that she is ‘home’, that her depth has simply decided it is safe to let go. Cecilie is fine with this. We need to be fine with it too.
Now is the time to provide, most of all, supportive equanimity, to support her on her passing with prayers, gratitude, love, compassion, courage, and celebrate the amazing lover and dancer that she is.
I have received many offers from people of great heart, of coming to provide nourishing food and do service for Cecilie. There is no kind of cooking that her battered organs can, at this point, benefit from. Her body simply cannot absorb and process nutrients.
While the doctor cannot predict a time frame (days or weeks), if you wish to come – please come soon. Come in a state of gratitude. Come in a state of celebration. Most of all come with equanimity. Please be prepared to take care of your own accommodation, etc.
I feel that Lama Webber said it the best when I consulted him today: “She needs to get out of here – she needs a new body!”
Please do not inundate Don or myself with email, etc. There is nothing we can tell you that is not in this update.
I will provide further updates as the situation unfolds.
Much love,
Brenda
